Funeral services for Bernice Madaline Phillips, 87, will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, August 6, in Kershaw Second Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Kershaw City Cemetery. Miss Phillips died Wednesday, August 3, at her home. Born in the Buffalo Township of Kershaw, she was the daughter of the late Agnes Victoria Phillips. She was retired from Springs Industries where she was a member of the 50 year club. She was a graduate of Kershaw High School where she lettered in Basketball. Miss Phillips was an active member of Kershaw Second Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, was a member of the Joy Group and church bowling league. She also was a member of the Red Hat Club and enjoyed puzzles and going out to eat. Surviving are her children and grandchildren who referred to her as “Granny” she raised; Clyde J. “Jackie” Talbert (Judy) of Kershaw, Gracie J. Talbert of Kershaw, Danny L. Talbert (Marsha) of Kershaw, Kenneth Bowers (Correen) of Cassatt, T. Richard Bowers (Wendie) of Kershaw, 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends, Friday, August 5, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Baker Funeral Home and other times at her home.
