Ben Ervin Phillips, 86 went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, March 29, 2015. Born in Kershaw, he was a son of Benjamin F. and Johnnie Mae Phillips. Ben was a barber in the Dentsville and Northeast area for more than 52 years. He loved his family and his church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing for most of his life. Mr. Phillips loved to cook and make up his own recipes. He was truly “one of a kind”. He also was a member of Sand Hill Heights Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 2, 2015, at Sand Hill Heights Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Lanny Brisendine will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, at the church. A public viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his step-mother, Dessie P. Phillips; his wife, Helen Blackmon Phillips; a sister, Mary Ruth Phillips and a brother, Carl F. Phillips. Surviving are his children, Glenn Phillips of Columbia, KY, David Phillips of Elgin, Virginia McVickers of Marshville, NC, Timmy Phillips of Elgin, Patricia Jones of Kershaw, Janice Harmon (Mike) of Blythewood; 14 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; a sister, Mozelle (John) Byrd of Kershaw, and a special cousin, Ruth Williams of Kershaw. Memorials may be made to Sand Hill Heights Baptist Church, 2992 Bowen Road, Elgin, SC 29045. Baker Funeral Home, Kershaw is in charge of arrangements.
