Barbara Mungo Johnson

Barbara Mungo Johnson, age 81, of the Charlesboro community, Kershaw, S.C., passed away, Saturday evening, August 12, 2023, at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House, Rock Hill, S.C. Born in Pageland, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Reuel Reeves Mungo and Edith Laster Mungo. Mrs. Johnson retired from Springs Industries. She also was a certified nursing assistant. Mr. Johnson enjoyed spending time with her family and going out to eat. She also kept a smile on her face. She was raised by the late Hade and Mary Mungo.


She is survived by her loving husband, Walter Franklin Johnson; 2 grandchildren, Daniel Johnson and his wife, Savannah, and Michaela Johnson; a great granddaughter, Magnolia Johnson and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Regina Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael “Mike” Johnson; 6 sisters, Patricia Byrd, Tommie Sue Deese, Sarah Hilton, Betty Jo Johnson, Dot Lilly, and Mary Todd.


The family will greet friends on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, one hour prior to the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the Charlesboro Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.


The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 3:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The Revs. Charles McAteer and Jackie Bailey will officiate.


The burial will follow in the church cemetery.


Memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Johnson may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, Il 60601.
