Barbara Marlin McQuage Huckabee, 89, of Bethune, S.C. passed away peacefully Friday morning, April 14, 2023, at her home. She was born in Bethune, October 17, 1933, to the late Angus E. McQuage and Jessie Baker McQuage. She was a graduate of Bethune High School, a faithful member of Bethune Presbyterian Church and married to Paul Huckabee. Barbara was the librarian of Bethune Public Library for almost 40 years. She loved to read, especially to the children at the library. She also enjoyed music, cooking and was an avid Carolina Gamecock fan. She and Paul enjoyed attending Carolina football games regularly. They were also longtime Gamecock Club members. Barbara loved to paint and draw and was a talented artist. Her infectious smile will be cherished for years to come.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband and soul mate of 67 years, Paul; 4 children, Kim Fulmer and her husband, John, Lisa Huckabee; Jill Huckabee Wolfe and her husband, Kip and Paul Huckabee, Jr. and his wife, Wendy; 9 grandchildren, Justin Mays and his wife, Heather, Jonathan Mays and his wife, Christine, Elizabeth Mays, Savannah McAllister and her husband, Zach, Mason Wolfe and his wife, Sarah Anne, Marina Wolfe, Madison Huckabee, Bailey Huckabee and Emily Huckabee and 9 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Cecile McQuage and Josie M. Bratton and 2 brothers, Mack McQuage and Spencer McQuage. The family would like to thank her longtime caregiver.
The family will greet friends, Tuesday afternoon, April 18, 2023, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. in Bethune Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.
The funeral service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Huckabee will be held immediately following the visitation in the church sanctuary beginning at 4:00 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Guy Oliver and Rev. Sanders Read will officiate the service. A burial will follow in the Scotch Cemetery after the service. Serving as pallbearers will be John Mays, Justin Mays, Mason Wolfe, Ricky Anderson, W.C. Mobley and Samuel Mobley.
In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances in memory of Mrs. Huckabee may be made to the Scotch Cemetery Committee c/o Benjie Blair, 603 S.
