Arthur Cleveland Sowell

Funeral services for Arthur Cleveland Sowell, 95, will be held Sunday, June 23, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. in Thorn Hill Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Sowell died Thursday, June 20, 2013, in KershawHealth, Camden. Born in Kershaw, he was the son of the late Grover Cleveland and Lillie Coates Sowell. Mr. Sowell retired from Kershaw Granite Company as a foreman and was a lifelong member of Thorn Hill Baptist Church. He loved picking the guitar, fiddle and dancing on Thursday nights at “Miss Ruby’s”, and being around people. Mr. Sowell was also a farmer. Surviving are his son; Gary C. Sowell of Kershaw; 2 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren, a brother; Hazel N. Sowell (Viola) of Kershaw. Mr. Sowell was predeceased by his wife; Eva Margaret Hasty Sowell, a son; Arthur Leon Sowell, sisters; Lillian S. Kelly, Viola S. Horton and brothers; Boyce C. Sowell and Wilber Sowell. Memorials may be made to Thorn Hill Baptist Church, 2587 Kershaw Country Club Rd., Kershaw, S.C. 29067 or Frontline Motorcycle Ministries Building Fund, 8617 Kershaw-Camden Highway, Kershaw, S.C. 29067. The family will receive friends Saturday from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home and other times at the home, 3512 Flat Rock Road, Kershaw.
