Arne Kristian Larsen

Arne Kristian Larsen, 90, went home to be with his Lord and Savior in the early morning hours of August 4th, 2014 at home, surrounded by family. A graveside service will be held 11 AM on Thursday morning, August 7th at the Kershaw City Cemetery. Pastor Casey Mills will officiate. Burial will immediately follow. Born in Larvik Norway to Martin and Dagmar Neilsen Larsen, he and his late wife Solveig Rogstad Larsen emigrated to the United States in 1952. While his home country of Norway was occupied in WWII, Arne served as a Merchant Marine, criss-crossing the Atlantic. He sailed for the Allies from 1940-1945, surviving bombings, a cyclone and U-boat torpedo. Willing to work and put his hand to any task, Arne became proficient as a farmer, mechanic, carpenter and welder. He timbered his own lumber and built his own homes. A peaceful, solid man of faith, Arne gave his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren a living example of the love of the Father. Though his presence here on earth will be missed, remaining family and friends celebrate with him as he has entered into his eternal reward and is now reunited with numerous family and friends. A long-time member of the Assemblies of God Church in Binghamton New York, Arne attended Bethel Worship Center in Camden South Carolina and Oak Ridge Baptist Church of Kershaw, SC after moving to this area in 2007 with his loving wife of 59 years. Surviving are: four children; Willy Larsen and his wife Carol of Pittsford, New York; Stanley Larsen and his wife Susan of Fort Lawn, SC; Gladys Strickhart and her husband Paul of Pittsfield NH; Arleen Herrick and her husband Chris of Kershaw, SC: twelve grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, a sister Ase Haffalden and two brothers Albert Larsen and Ole Kristian Larsen. He was predeceased by his wife, a son, sister, brother and grandson, Ray Campbell. The viewing and receiving of friends of the family will be held at the Baker Funeral Home from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM on Wednesday, August 6th and from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM on Thursday, August 7th prior to the Graveside Service at 11:00 AM in the Kershaw City Cemetery.
