Alvin Mills Bowers

A funeral service for Alvin Mills Bowers, 78 of Heath Springs, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 24, 2016, in the sanctuary of Hanging Rock United Methodist Church, Kershaw. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.

Mr. Bowers, loving husband of 54 years to Sue Phillips Bowers, died Sunday, February 21, at his home. Born in Camden, he was a son of the late Tillman Jackson and Irva Williams Bowers. Mr. Bowers retired from Bowater Carolina and was a member of Hanging Rock United Methodist Church. He served his church as a Sunday School teacher and many other various capacities. Mr. Bowers loved his family, his church and the Clemson Tigers. He enjoyed traveling, camping, woodworking, square dancing and clogging. He also was the director of Triple R Cloggers. Mr. Bowers served his country in the United States Air Force for four years.

Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are a son, Morris Bowers and his wife Jo of Grayslake, Illinois; a daughter, Suzanne Bowers of New Orleans, Louisiana; a grandson, Zachary Bowers; a granddaughter, Bailey Bowers both of Grayslake, Illinois; a sister, Gail B. Hammond and her husband Mike; a brother, Omer Bowers and his wife Jerri all of Heath Springs and their children, Tina (Brooks) Tomlin and their children, Sydney and Cale and Timmy (Grace) Bowers and their children, Dexter, Joel, Lorelei and Eli; a sister-in-law, Faye P. Bowers of Kershaw and her children, Phillip (Rhonda) Bowers and their daughter, Sydney and Carlette (Charles) Stover and their children, Tyler and Dillon.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 23, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home and other times at the home, 509 S. College St., Heath Springs.
