Ada Kathryn Gainey

Ada Kathryn Williams Gainey, 85, of Bethune, passed away peacefully, Thursday, May 27, 2020, in McCoy Nursing Home, Bishopville. Born in Bethune, she was the daughter of the late James Freeman Williams and Evelyn Blackmon Williams. Mrs. Gainey was a graduate of Bethune High School and retired from the Kendall Co. She was a member of Timrod Baptist Church. Mrs. Gainey enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren, watching old westerns on television, riding around and walking. She also loved her cats.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Claiborne “R.C” Gainey, former treasurer of Kershaw County and her brother, Harold Williams of Lancaster.

Surviving are her daughter, Marilyn G. Watkins of Columbia; 3 sons, Ralph C. Gainey, Jr. and his wife Rhonda of Lugoff, Joel (Melissa) Gainey of Bethune and Steve Gainey of Bethune; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held in Timrod Baptist Church Cemetery. Burial will follow the service in the cemetery. The Revs. Tim Williams and Jeremy Ussery will officiate.

Honorary pallbearers will be Benjamin Gainey, Clay Gainey, Josh Gainey, Sebastian Gainey, T.J. Gainey, Don Watkins and Lee Watkins.

Memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Gainey may be made to Timrod Baptist Church, 4227 Timrod Road, Bethune, S.C. 29009.

The family would like to thank the staff of McCoy Nursing Home and Hospice for the love and care shown to Mrs. Gainey.
